How Oral Sedation Works
This form of sedation dentistry involves taking a small pill about an hour before your procedure to induce relaxation. You will feel drowsy so you will need someone to drive you to your appointment. Most patients feel very relaxed and calm throughout their procedure and will still be able to listen to and respond to Dr. Paresh Naran’s instructions. After your treatment, you will still feel fairly drowsy and we will escort you to an area to relax for a while before you leave. You will need someone to drive you home after oral sedation.
Best Candidates for Oral Sedation
Patients who have a high level of fear or have had a traumatic dental experience may be good candidates for oral sedation. Oral sedation is ideal for patients who have difficulty feeling relaxed or getting numb by other means before a procedure. Oral sedatives can be very effective for inducing a calm and relaxed state before and during treatment. You will be monitored during your treatment for health and safety and once the treatment is complete, you will need someone to drive you home so you can sleep for a few hours.
