Dental implants are a popular treatment option for missing teeth, and it’s not hard to see why once you understand their various benefits. Not only are they very natural-looking and comfortable, but they also provide superior durability and reliability when compared with some other tooth replacement options. If you have recently made the decision to receive dental implants, here are a few things to expect during each step of the procedure.
Step 1: Evaluation
Prior to receiving dental implants, you will first be evaluated to determine your eligibility for the procedure. Depending on the health and density of your jawbone, you may need to receive a gum graft before implants can be placed in your jaw.
Step 2: Dental Implant Placement
Once you are considered a good candidate for implant placement, Dr. Paresh Naran will expose your jawbone by making small incisions in the gum line. He will then drill a hole into the bone and place an implant post into the hole. The post is then capped with a cover screw to keep it in place.
Step 3: Healing and Fusion
Once the implant has been placed in the jaw, the area must be given time to heal before the crown can be attached. During this healing period, which typically takes three to six months, the implants become fused to the bone during a process called osseointegration.
Step 4: Dental Crown Placement
After the healing and fusion stage, Dr. Naran uncovers the implant and attaches a natural-looking crown to the top. The crown is designed to match the shape and color of your natural teeth.
Step 5: Recovery
Once the entire dental implant process has been completed, you will be given instructions for caring for the area while you recover. For the best long-term results, it is imperative to care for your implant, which includes brushing and flossing daily and receiving regular dental checkups.
